Nothing Admissible | A Poem About Almost Love, Memory & What Never Happened
There was no photograph
of your hand in mine.

No key,
no shirt left behind,
no anniversary to forget.
No shared address.
Nothing I could place
on a table, call evidence.

Only a voice
I knew by silence.
A look
that changed meaning
depending on who else
was in the room.

Small permissions
we never named.

Things you remembered
after I had forgotten
telling you.

Years later,
I could make the case
against myself easily:
we never dated.
we never kissed.
nothing happened.

Still,
for reasons
I could not make admissible,
losing you
felt exactly
like loss.
