I didn't choose this faith.
It arrived slowly,
one departure at a time.
After a while,
belief requires less evidence
than hope.
Every goodbye
becomes another witness
called to testify.
I am the place
love passes through,
never the place
it stays.
I have learned
to read absence
like scripture.
The way people walk away
without ever turning
to see if I’m watching.
I know the verses by heart.
I recite them
whenever hope begins
to sound convincing.
