A Man With Good Timing | A Poem About Attraction, Wit & Chemistry
you let me finish.

not politely,
completely.

the last word lands,
and you leave it there
a moment,
untouched.

then the corner
of your mouth moves.
half a second.
just enough
for me to know
something is coming.

your answer arrives
low and unhurried,

sharp enough
to split the thought
cleanly down the middle.

I laugh.

you don't chase it.
you only wait
for the quiet
to find us again.

for a moment,
neither of us reaches
to cover it.

you leave the silence open,
as if there is no need
to make it smaller.

and I keep
stepping into it.
